What can I say... the past few years haven't been easy. But while we all wait for COVID to chill the fuck out, there's no better way to pass the time than expanding our minds or improving different areas in our life.
Books have always been a good outlet for growth, self-discovery, and reflection.
So if you're looking for just that, I have 12 books (some newer, some classic) you can start to sink your teeth into!
Measure What Matters sets a great framework for a goal-setting strategy that's been used by Google, Amazon, Intuit, and more. And while it's great to use in a business, this strategy can also be used in other areas of your life. You can set your personal, fitness, and relationship goals using the OKR method. So give it a read and get going with that growth in your life!
Oldie, but an absolute goodie. It's crazy how much trauma our body holds that we don't even consciously try to work through. This book details how we can identify and heal that trauma, helping us to break free of barriers that keep us from achieving more in life.
This was a book I picked up after my mom got diagnosed with breast cancer and I became obsessed with how people developed cancer and how to prevent it. This book is a great start to understanding how to lead an anti-cancer lifestyle and decrease your chances of developing it later in life. It's filled with great research but still a really enjoyable read.
The title says it all. It's time to self-heal and recover from your past and move forward stronger than ever. I just finished this book last year and it was a pretty easy read This book is a great guide in finding more joy, self-love, and happiness in your life that you can create on your own. 2022 is the year of self-improvement and self-confidence and this book is a great step in that direction.
Do you want to get ahead in life and get past the bullshit that's seemingly keeping you down? Pick this book up to give yourself a kick in the ass and rocket to your highest potential. It details strategies and methods that elite athletes, CEOs, and others have accomplished the impossible and made it attainable.
Okay, so this isn't your normal self-improvement book or anything, but I think we can all learn something by studying our past and the history of our species. I haven't finished this book yet, but this book is well-written and covers 70,000 years of history in a well-thought-out approach and narrative. And we can always apply a lesson from the past into our future.
Don't you just love these straightforward titles! But seriously though - the more we understand the brain, the better we can prevent ourselves from losing our marbles. And let's face it, sometimes our brain can be our own worse enemy. So this is definitely on my list to read this year! It takes a deep dive into how we can prolong our cognitive function, increase positive self-talk, and decrease stress and anxiety brought on by negative thoughts and cognitive damage. Sounds like a good time to me.
Ready to drop anxiety and fear brought on by the past and future? Learn to be more present and in the "now" with this amazing read I just finished in December. At first, it's a pretty dense read, but you shouldn't speed through this book anyway. The writer encourages the reader to really slow down and think through everything that you're reading. It's not a light read, but once you really get into the subject matter it'll be difficult to put down!
I know what you're thinking - "I'm not an alcoholic, why do I need to read this book?" This book really is for everyone - whether you're a social drinker, struggling with alcohol, or don't drink much at all (like me). It's a unique perspective and social commentary on how a substance can be so ingrained in our society that it essentially tricks us to into poisoning ourselves and even if *bad* when we choose not to. And unlike some other books on this subject, it's written in a very relatable way and a breeze to get through!
So there you have it! If you're looking to up your self-improvement and personal deveopment game in 2022, start with those books and let me know what you think!
